Rape accused nabbed on Nepal border
New Delhi: A 20-year-old who had allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl in southwest Delhi’s Delhi Cantt area was nabbed on Tuesday. Suspect Umesh Thapa, who had fled the area following the incident, was taken into custody on the India-Nepal border, a senior police officer said.
Police received a medico-legal certificate on May1 regarding the rape survivor who was brought to the hospital by her mother fora check-up and found tobe pregnant.
"After recording the statements of the minor and her mother, a case was registered under relevant sections of rapeunder the IPC and Pocso Act," said Rohit Meena, DCP (south-west).
The survivor could not divulge many details of the incident apart from the suspect’s name, the DCP said, adding, “Several informers were roped in to collect information about the accused. It came to light that he had come to the city and had started working as a food vendor in the area wherein he encountered the girl. It was also revealed that Thapa had fled to his village in Nepal after the incident".
A police team reached the Nepal border. "Thapa was lured into coming to the border, where he was nabbed. The accused has been remanded to judicial custody," the DCP added.
